Hey--
...now, PUHLEASE don't flame me if I'm like the only person who doesn't know the answer to this....but...
I'm playing Moby's Animal Rights (I like to play it when I write)...and I'm like...geesh...this one song--FACE IT--sounds so Filter-ish...so I get the CD cover and read...and Moby thanks Filter on this CD...but there's nothing more than that...
Did they collaborate on this--or any other song?

I don't know about a Moby/Filter connection. All I know is, like his sea faring counterpart, Moby blows....

Yeah, well, I like Moby... perso.wanadoo.fr/atil/forum/super2.gif[/img]...especially that song that was on the episode of the X-Files "Closure"... My Weakness...LOVE that one...very surreal... If you did a search for Filter mp3s around the time Napster was big, you'd find a bunch of underground techno for some reason. Turns out there is a psuedo techno group by the name Filter but didn't produce an album (to my knowledge) under that name (since a rock band under the Warner/Reprise label had it already). So, Filter the techno group is a remix/techno/house group whom I believe is one or two people/DJs...hence the Moby connection.
Due note the date that Animal Rights came out.
Hope that helps.

Animal Rights came out in 1997--Short Bus 95'....so...I'm not sure what I'm supposed to note about that...
I still wonder...Moby is a Warner Bro. artist...and it's not like he thanked a bunch of unknowns...the group mentioned right before Filter is Soundgarden...he also thanks Billy Corgan...

Regardless of whether you like or dislike Moby's music, there is no denying that his contributions to music cannot be berated.
Though his music isn't for everyone, he has released material that is not only avante garde, but it is profound and above all, new. He is a significant musician because his music is sonically unique and will become even more influential in the long run than it already is today.
Not only that, but his music also conveys tremendous depth with real messages in its lyrics. Unlike most mainstream music, his music is not hollow, meaningless, or dispensible.
I'm not saying that everyone has to like his music, all I'm saying is that musically, he is such a significant figure, and I have so much respect for him because of it.
As for the Filter connection, I have no idea. Perhaps Hub can shed some light.....
Love, Cynic

hey guys
i'm not positive but i do think that the plug in the linear notes of animal rights is infact referring to the filter we all know and love... i remember asking richie about that awhile back and i thought he said he was buds with him, although i could be wrong... i am a bit of a moby fan and that cd is definetly my favorite moby album
the hardcore oldschool fans of filter might also remember rumors floating around during the "dark ages" about moby producing the album which went on to become "title of record", although i believe the name of the cd being tossed around at that time was "lungbutter" if i'm correct? .. but yeah obviously the producing job didn't happen, but the rumors persisted online and elsewhere for a short amount of time, and i believe that was probably around the same time that animal rights came out if i'm correct?
(for those unaware of what i'm referring to, "the dark ages" is a term the hardcore oldschool filter fans refer to as the years in between the first 2 records when filter info was scarce and there was like 2 or 3 fan sites up)
but yeah i'm pretty sure that plug is referring to richie and the guys
filter also got a plug in the linear notes of staind's last cd "break the cycle"

talk about 'lungbutter' started while the boys were on tour in 1996 if i remember right....i remember hearing an interview back then that had Geno on it talking about some bar in Texas and mentioning "lungbutter" as being the next filter album....honestly i don't remember much at all about 'lungbutter'....goddamn i haven't heard that name in a long ass time....wow....

I've heard that whole "lungbutter" thing before and I still it's quite the silliest name I've ever heard. I would not be surprised if Filter and Moby were friends at any given time. It's all cool. And hey, they might talk now and again although I think with Rich being in LA and Moby being in NYC it might be a bit difficult at times.
