Now this should get the conversation going (ha!)
I was thinking a while ago that Richard doesn't (seem to) have any tattoos, body piercings, etc., not even an earring. Of course, I could have missed something and since I'm not privvy to his privates, well . . . (that brief shot of his bum in "Phenom" was 6 or 7 years ago, and there could have been an update since then) I was trying to remember from his NIN days -- he had some wild 'n freaky 'dos but I don't recall tattoos, etc. (ya gotta love that electrical tape over his nipples, though -- yow!)
Anywho, I got to thinking about it again after he posted his comments about last year's drive across the U.S. and the whole "Amalgamut" concept. In a sea of tattoos and piercings, it seems that Rich has remained a purist . . .
Hey, he can do whatever he wants, but I think it's kinda cool if he's passed on the whole thing
And yeah, sometimes I just have too much time on my hands

[glow=purple,2,300]Well, I think he did pass on all of that. I think he does prefer to be pure, or maybe he's lazY. No wait, he saw what happened when Trent had his nose pierced for that brief time and thought, "No. I'm not gonna pierce anything, damn it." As for tattoos, I'm not a fan of 'em. Just my pref. And yes, we haven't seen anything of his ass or such since Phen. Personally, that electric tape is not my fave, but hey, it's pretty funny too. Bet it hurt to take that off. Reminds me, must promote my Ramblings at my site more. Not that this hasn't become a ramble at all.[/glow]

Hey, ramble on . . .
I never followed NIN really closely, but I did see Trent, Rich, et al., once quite a while ago -- they opened for Bauhaus (Kinda snuck into that one, but that's another story) Maybe Richard figured life on stage was brutal enough without inflicting more pain off stage. I always have been curious about that whole on-stage thing -- just an act/part of the show? Power play (Trent's thing)? An interesting dynamic, in any case -- I'm sure it's been discussed and analyzed to death
So, that's my rambling for now

[glow=purple,2,300]I can tell you how that all started. But it'd take up the entire thread and well, yeah. Can't you tell I'm supposed to be making a NIN website? Sighs. That'll happen..NOT. Yeah, it's sort of a power play by Trent, but it's more of the chaos of the stage. It's sorta strange and hard to explain unless you're really interested in knowing. [/glow]

Sounds like a lotta psycho-drama played out on stage. But that is part (a lot?) of what NIN is famous for, right? Is there a short version . . . ?
You've probably been to the "Meathead Perspective" site, right? That guy's crazy!! . . . he generally doesn't like Filter or RP, but he does/did seem to have some sympathy for when Richard was, as he put it, Trent's "punching bag"
If I remember correctly, I think Trent dragged Richie across the stage by his long locks (among other stuff) . . . that's gotta get kinda old after a while, even if it gave you an adrenaline rush at first, don't you think?

[glow=purple,2,300]Long story short: Trent NEVER meant NIN to be as violent it is on stage. Fans that were attending concerts were very turned off by the music, so he got insulting. It just sorta carried over into a mayhem on stage between band members. Yes, it would get old to be a "punching bag". By the way, Meathead is one of my fave sites to visit and I think his whole animosity towards Rich is an act. He makes it his job to make fun of Rabid NIN fans who think Trent is GOD. You should read the Thanks D!ck perspective to know what I'm talking about. He hates those fans who are just too crazy so he takes that and blows it out of proportion, or well, as I think, not really. Have you ever gone into a NIN community and mentioned Filter/Rich? They go NUTS.[/glow]

Hey Allison, Thanks for the lo-down. Can we ever really know for sure what's on Trent's mind?? And I*have* noticed some really nasty comments flung Rich's/Filter's way on those NIN forums. They need to just get over it!!
. . . as for NIN fans who think Trent is God, what's that song . . 'bow down . . .' A self-fulfilling prophecy? Or brainwashing?
Meathead is pretty funny and creative, still going strong after all these years -- he sure has a way with fanfic!
Well, getting ready to hit the beach -- spring break time (couldn't resist) Who-ee, I am ready!!!

You know what's sorta scary??? The more I dig, the more I find out and it's sorta interesting.
As for said NIN fan groups, Trent would be disgusted now a days. Perhaps shortly after Rich left he might have been a bit okay with it, but today he's not really that angry. He feels a bit petty about the whole thing too. And YES they should move on. Sighs. We know Trent and Rich did.
As for brainwashing?? Hmm, nah. Trent didn't think he'd make it with his music in the first place. Some crazy people are just out there. You think the NIN community is bad you should check out the XF community. Talk about Rabids. Sighs. *hangs head in shame* I belong to that community but sheesh, there are days when I want to just get rid of 'em.
Meathead rules as far as I'm concerned. He may say mean things about Rich, but he's mainly parody and such. He sure does a great job. You should read his Ask Meathead section and his Stupid email. He's had some doozies and if I get any as dumb expect a stupid email section for sure.
Dude, spring break is next week for me. I have no money so in cold icky Minnesota I shall stay.
