Hey boards, I'm new. I've been a filter fan since Title of Record. So I have a question. There's this annual Smashing Pumpkins tribute show in Chicago that hosts small/local bands that play originals and Pumpkins covers. Those bands open for a well-known headliner who also does (more) originals and (fewer) Pumpkins covers. They donate all proceeds to charity. This concert is supposed to be in August. What do you guys think are the odds of Filter agreeing to headline a show like this? I mean, I've heard that Richard and Billy Corgan hate each other. But then, Billy's not going to be AT this tribute show. thoughts?

I can see Filter doing it, not because they were "influenced" by Smashing Pumpkins, but more like because they used to tour with them for awhile and stuff and that some Filter members such as Rich himself have had friends and do have friends that were in the band more than anything else. That's about it, though.

So many possibilities....so many connections,...Rich and D'arcy.....Filter and Matt, and Matt going to the Pumpkins (then they broke up, haw haw haw!)...but i've never heard anything about Rich hating Corgan,...but it wouldnt surprise me. I've never been a fan of Billy's attitude. I saw his new band, Zwan, at what used to be the Karma Klub in Boston,..and well, they sounded like poop,...but the acoustics in that joint suck anyways.
What was cool tho was a few years ago, right outside Karma (which is across the street from Fenway park), they shut the street down quickly, guys came outtah no where and set up a huge sound system, and the Crystal Method played a free show in the street. THAT was the shit!!

Hey, so it's probably unlikely that Richard would play this show because of being in the studio but that would just make it a lot cooler if he DID. I didn't know about the D'Arcy connection; that's pretty sweet. (I wonder what the hell is up with D'Arcy anyway.) BTW, the website for the smashing pumpkins tribute is www.act4.net . Any chicagoans should definitely go check it out. I'm not even a huge Pumpkins fan and it was a great show last year!

I've never herd that Rich and Billy had issues, I think your confused. Maybe your thinking of Trent an Billy? The rumor goes Billy was trying to get with Trents GF around the Lolapoluza era. [I'd like to stress this is a RUMOR I have no proof one way or the other] I know Rich has been friends with D'Arcy for many years now. Could he be at the tribute? Maybe, anything is possable. . .
On another note: I've never been a big fan of Smashing Pumpkins but a friend dragged me to see his new band (Zwan). It was perhaps the worst show I've ever been to. If you value your ears, don't go!

I've never cared for The Smashing Pumpkins and I certainly don't care for Zwan. Trent Reznor, on the other hand...
