oh wow it was a LONG weekend... the shows were okay, except we got snubbed for cash at both shows - even when we were guaranteed a $100 payout in boise... so we spent about $100+ on gas alone, plus about $50 on a hotel one night...
but the worst thing was after our show in Boise, we drove straight back to Portland (about an 8 hour drive)... well about halfway into the drive, around 4am, our fucking van broke down and died, assed out completely, fuckin nothing would get that thing back up and running.. we jumped it and it just shut down again.. and this happened at a random spot on the freeway 190 miles east of Portland - no major cities or even towns anywhere close by. We had just put $150 into fixing the starter with new wires and a brand new battery, and it still assed out on us... so we had to spend $200 of our own cash to get a tow back to Portland (on top of the previous charges incurred for gas).. so I spent the early hours of sunday in our shitty van locked ontop of a tow truck driving through the gorge...
this must be what that "paying your dues" stuff is all about right?

Oh wow, Hub, that just totally sucks (like I have to tell you), sorry that happened. Yeah, so the equation has to be: pay dues now = success in the future, or sooner I hope the show-goers were diggin ya and will get out the word on dualesc in the mt states! lexie

I'm sorry your van broke down, Hubalicious(sorry you opened yourself up wide for that). Maybe next time it won't and you'll have an amazing tour. So were the shows any good??? Did you at least have fun playing at them. I know they didn't pay like they should have but I hope you at least enjoyed yourself somewhat.

word yeah it was pretty rough times...
we had a great time playing the shows, people seemed to dig it, asked for an encore in idaho too which was a nice bonus! we sold a lot of shirts and cds too which helped with gas funds...
don't get me wrong i wasn't saying i was upset because i wanted money and that was the only reason i was mad, it's just that the $100 we were promised for driving 9 hours to play the show would've helped big time to pay for the $200 we had to pay for the tow back to portland ya know? we be broke mafuckas... shit, we would've been happy with like $15 for driving 9 hours to the show
on a bright note we're going to be working with the publicist for coheed and cambria in the coming months to do a "media blitz" - and we just lined up with a manager so hopefully things will start going well for us...

ok, i know pretty much nada about the music biz, bookings, and such, but i have to say, i think you guys deserve more than $100 for a gig! geesh, you've got talent, lots of shows under your belt (hehe), professionally produced cds, etc. . . . i know you have to start somewhere, but frankly, mr. shankly [an old smiths' reference], i was floored to see that. naive little me. get that publicist on the job!! lex

hey thanks for the vote of confidence but actually $100 is a lot for what we usually make.. we've been playing shows for 0 profit for about 3 years.. we'll get the occasional $20 here and there maybe, but for the most part we play for free - or even pay to play at some places (they make you buy tickets and then you have to sell those tickets to people in order to play, then you get no money from the door).... so yeah that $100 was huge to us, i think the most we've ever made at a show was $200 and that was like "sweet!"
but that might be good for us because since we're used to playing for free and/or paying to play concerts we haven't been jaded by big money things payouts - we play because we enjoy playing our music infront of people.. it'd be sweet to get some cash but we can't rely on that or else we wouldn't be getting many shows...
