This is what's got me pissed off ... Since friday, a 12-year-old Danish girl has been missing and the police searches didn't turn up anything until last night. At a press meeting today, it was made public that she was found buried last night, near the playground where she was last seen. She's been beaten and sexually assaulted! I'm so angry I could spit! This is a sick world! What on earth possesses anyone to commit such a horrible crime is beyond me! She was 12!! What makes me even more angry is that when - or if -they find the fucking bastard who did it, he will not be properly punished because we don't do that in this godforsaken country! I'm not advocating capital punishment here, I'm merely saying that our justice system NEVER EVER takes into account that the victims and their families are the ones who have suffered and will suffer for the rest of their lives! For some reason, it is politically correct to treat the criminal with more respect! My thoughts are with the girl's family and friends. May someone give them the strenght they need to go on. Ama

OH MY GOD!!!!!
A similar crime has just happened here in the UK!!! A 14-year-old from Midlothian was found by her FAMILY!
WTF is up with the world? I CANNOT for the life of me understand what makes some people so truly evil!!
And I hear you when you say that if the BASTARD who did this crime is caught, he/she/it will be most probably be kept inside for maybe a few years and then let out "because he/she has 'reformed'..."
I REALLY don't see how people like paedophiles/rapists/serial murderers CAN reform...
The most RIDICULOUS thing I heard recently was that a convicted murderer was let out because the prison didn't have the space to keep him jailed anymore! EH??

Ahem, in my state(usually smart and intelligent about keeping extra bad baddies locked up) our new idiot govenor wants to let out ALL the people they can not reform or fix because it'll be cost effective. We're talking about a guy who in the 50s raped and murdered 300+ children and hey he may be 84 now, but the guy has has hospitalized 20+ workers in the prision he's being kept at and is still as insane and dangerous as he was when he was first caught. The man has also expressed that he wants to go back to his old stomping grounds and pick up where he left off. Then there is the man who rapes old women and kills them for fun, and then there are so many other baddies that our gov wants to release on us poor Minnesotans. Why? Because it's COST EFFECTIVE. If you can't fix them, why pay to HOUSE them far away from the normal people??? ARRRRRRGH. I'm just glad our Attorney General in our state is smart enough to say "Ummm NO."

EXACTLY! It's always about th money, isn't it? Never mind who gets hurt as long as it's cost effective!
We have people being released from prisons too because there is no room for them or because they're "reformed"! It's an insult against the victims of the crimes and against their families and it's an insult to the tax payers who watch as their hard-earned money is spent on all the wrong things!

Child preditors are the worst kind of criminal and I have no sympathy where their concerned. I think they all shuld be put to death. There is no way to rehabilitate those kind of people. I volunter at a battered womans shelter and I have yet to come across one (woman) that wasent abused at the hands of one of those sick individuals. It makes me so sick that molesters, rapists, and abusers get off so light. >:(When I rule the world I'm bringing back torture.

I reckon they're even treated too nicely in jail.. i say a tiny dark cell with some mouldy bread and a dish with water in it (chained to the floor so the asshole can drink from it like a dog) is all they deserve, if not too much
(and it's cost effective too)

...(and it's cost effective too) In spite of the fact it's a very serious topic, that was a DAMN funny statement!!! And yeah, I'm agreeing with you on that!! ... WHY does a "life sentence" NOT mean life??

YAY Gummo! I couldn't agree more. Those bastards deserve PUNISHMENT! Not a big room with a wide screen TV and a Playstation or whatever they are allowed. It's a fucking joke that they are treated so well in prisons. (And I realize that I'm generalizing here!) We go on about human rights but don't the victims and their families deserve to be treated right? After all, their human rights were put aside by the offender.

With the risk of being spat at...I'd just like topoint out that in the western hemisphere at least, prison is supposed to be rehabilitating as well as a punishment... It's not meant as 'revenge'!!! Which is why people, even the worst of the worst, are being treated with something resembling dignity...if they haven't shown it before in life perhaps they need to learn what it is?

Ooo! That's also a very good point...
*ponders* Is it the system of rehabilitation that can fail to work for these people?

Honestly, prison (except really, really low security for white collar crimes and such) is not like you think it is. My brother worked for several years as a prison guard--and it is a truly a terrible, terrible place. No luxuries (other than a bed--if you want to call it that--and indoor plumbing and something resembling food). It's full of violence. Seething with everything negative.
And that is a terrible and senseless crime, Ama. It always breaks my heart to hear that children are abused. Always.

Kim...that is probably true in America but in Sweden and Denmark and maybe other European countries(?) prisons ARE like Ama described them!!! People ASK to serve in our countries cos they know they'll have a good stay, if u know what I mean! *shakes head*

Wow--my vision is narrow sometimes. I wasn't even thinking world-wide. Thanks for reminding me, badass! So prisons are THAT cushy? Why? I know there are some minimum security facilities in the US that are for white-collar criminals--and they are not bad. But most of the prisons in the US are terrible places to be. And rehabilitation...is usually a myth (speaking only of US). We have a very, very high return rate for incarceration (lots of prisoners go back time and time again--there's a word for that but I can't remember it right now).
