I side with Trent. Theft of intellectual property is wrong.

I dunno... IMHO Musicians get screwed enough as it IS without people pirating stuff....
Me? I can't be arsed to download stuff... I prefer to have a nice CD in my paws (coupled with the fact that any CD I buy is ...er... RESEARCH which I can then claim a percentage of the price back off tax... *whistles innocently*) I like to read the sleeve notes, look at the artwork, etc, etc, etc as well as listen to it...
*shrugs* Each to their own, I spose...
That said, destroying a person's PC is a bit drastic, ain't it? I read about that, apparently the idea is the person in question gets three warnings and then KAPLOOEY!!!!

Well, to me a CD isn't just the disc, but the cover art, the liner notes, extras, etc.-the whole package. That's why I buy. Also, I don't buy often because there is precious little out there that I like. I barely even listen to the radio anymore.

Another artist's perception.. "Okay……now I'm brooding. This past week, Utah Senator Orrin Hatch (who I chatted with while I was down there) publicly suggested that one cure for stopping the illegal music downloading would be for the government to develop some sort of super virus that would "blow up" the downloader's computer as soon as he hit the button. While I applaud Senator Hatch's dedication to the enforcement of American intellectual property law, I, entertainment world pipsqueak non-executive, want to say something. Ahem. I do not believe that piracy is the big problem facing the music industry right now. I might be totally out of my mind, I don't know, but I have this strange feeling that if someone could wave a magic wand right now and make downloading music impossible, CD sales would in fact not return to their levels of four years ago or whenever the last good year was. They might spike a bit, but I think they would pretty much stay the same. It is too bad we will never know. But anyway, there is such a thing as correlation without causation. I know it seems logical that since the decrease in CD sales correlates with the increase in downloading, the latter has caused the former; and undoubtedly it is true that downloading has sapped some sales. Could it be, though, that other factors are far more responsible for the industry's troubles? What if it's more that the industry's modus operandi has sucked for years and that it's finally just caught up with them, and most of the music they put out sucks, too?" - Tal Bachman.. read the rest @ www.bachmania.com/droppingin.htm

I barely even listen to the radio anymore. that's exactly how i feel! eventually I'll end up buying a CD if i really like it.. maybe downloading MP3s will help me decide if i wanna buy it, or if i'm in the mood for a song at 11pm, there aren't exactly many stores open that sell CDs, or maybe i just don't have the freakin money they wanna squeeze outta my pockets. They're doing themselves more harm then good
