Ok Filter is my favorite band. Title of Record is my favorite album. I have a lot of personal attatchement to the band. So if I sound like I am not here-on in that is for you to all decide. I hope you all take the time to read this, including you Rich.
I imagine all of you have read the latest Rich's words on the Filter site. On there Rich says its just me, Rae and my assistant engineer Jef in the studio every day.
So whats happened to Geno, Frank and Steven? I thought they were apart of this great band. I just cannot understand why Rich would not be utilizing all this tallent that he's surrounded with. It makes no sense to me.
Bono always had his cast work with him on albums. Sure U2 has a lot to do about Bono, but they are still U2. And that can be said about a lot of Bands.
So to me it seems like Filter is 97% Rich and 3 % Geno, Frank and Steven and this really bothers me. If Album IV tanks as bad as Amalgamut, then I wonder if and why Geno, Frank and Steven would stay. If they aren't involved in the production of this album. If they don't put there hearts and souls into this album like they did the last one, why would they stay?
I want this band to stay together, grow and evolve into a band like U2. I strongly believe that they can do this because there music means so damned much to me. I have never enjoyed a bands lyrics, and detail of the sound like this before.
And I just can't understand why Rich has gone solo and without them. When Rich and Geno were on Much Music in Canada last summer Rich stated he wanted to include all the band members cause he wanted this to be a band, like U2. So this new direction does not make sense.
I respect Rich as a writer, artist, musician and band member. But I do not like his not including the rest of the band in making the next album.
Ok so I vented my frustration. I look forward to reading any replies.

I think, if anything, this album will be a lot like the debut album Short Bus(not sonically perhaps) but I think Rich is just trying to figure out what he wants to do as music. From the review Hubka posted, it sounds like it's gonna combine a few of the elements of the first three records. And who knows, sometime down the road the other guys will get invovled. Remember, Fitler's debut was Rich writing alone.

...Although, yes, Geno, Steve and Frank are all members of Filter, to me... Rich is Filter... I am definately not saying that they aren't a worthwhile contribution to the band... Because one of my favourite Filter songs was co-written with the guys... But I honestly think that this album is only in the very, very early stages of development... Geno, Steve and Frank will come into it later... No Doubt... Rich loves those guys too much to ditch them now... What he has written at the moment (from Hubka's review) I am guessing is only the bare essentials to some kick-ass songs... When he introduces this stuff to the guys they will probably suggest things and chords will be changed and drum beats modified etc...And then they will become "FILTERIZED"... I think it's only a matter of time before we see Steve, Frank and Geno back in the Studio!!!.... LJC P.S - Although the Amalgamut didn't sell as well as the others, I for one am definately not dissapointed with it... P.P.S- Filter is not U2...And Rich is not Bono...

Just a note... all of U2's songs are listed as
"Written by U2."
Filter will never be a U2-setup; or doubtful, anyhow.
Bono was asked to be in U2 by the drummer, the founder of the band.
While I agree with some of your sentiments, the example you picked is completely out of range...

Interesting post about the whole Rich factor.
I think you have to look to the past to understand this. You have to look to his roots. The whole reason there is a Filter is because Rich learned from Trent that one person is, and legally owns the band. When you write music you have ownership rights, things get complicated. Technically Geno, Steve, Frank, and the new guy, are paid touring and recording artists. Employees if you will. I think this is shrewd business that Rich learned because he was the Geno of NIN. Well I respect his right to monopolizing creative and production control. Too many cooks spoil the broth.
One other thing, don't forget Brian Leasegang (spelling?) was a huge part of Short Bus. He tested the process and look where he is.
Check out a jewel case from NIN where it say, NIN is Trent Reznor, and then you see, Richard Patrick - Touring Guitarist.
Listen to "So I quit and see what happens when you try to barter for a sweeter deal. I think lawyers made Geno pull out and call Richie's bluff. He could have easily told Geno to go get fucked. But he worked it out. That shocked me.

Album 4 is in its raw stages. Think of the creation of the album like the writting of a short story. You first spit out your rough draft with all it's gramitcial errors and parts that just don't make sense. The next step is to revise and refine the story until you get it perfect. Rich is in the rough draft and revision part of the album.
The review of the new songs made them sound great, but they were still in the process. The revising process is the longsest process in writting, and I am sure it is the same for song writting. Rich isn't giong to do this all by himself. In the final stages of revisions, Geno, Frank, and Steve will probably come into the picture and help polish the songs to perfection. Also, only five songs have been pretty much complated, and that leaves at least six songs left to write.
Why would Rich leave the guys out? If here were going to do that on the album, it wouldn't be called the next Filter album, but a self tittled Richard Patrick release, which is not the case.

The only thing I'd like to point out here is this: Short Bus Credits. ALL songs written by Richard Patrick. Not Richard and Brian, not Rich, Brian, Geno, Frank, Matt. ALL Songs Written by Richard Patrick. Hence, the idea that album four would be titled as a solo Richard Patrick album is silly. Short Bus should have been then, too. And no, I'm not saying Brian didn't do anything, but Rich wrote each song alone.

See, now that's what I'm talking about - the man knows what he's doing. Has he let us down so far? Hell no! He keeps kicking ass, no matter what shape "Filter" takes. Keep on rocking Rich.

I was listening to "The Amalagmut" last night and it is still as amazing sounding as it was when i first listened to it, so a 4th album will have to be pretty damn good to kcock the wind out of the last one, i have no doubt that Rich has been inspired by something pretty powerful, coz he doesn't just make an album for the sake of it, if you notice that last 3 have about 3 years between each one, where as this one seems to have 18 - 24 months since the last, so go for it Rich, i can't wait to hear what are going to produce this time around, also i am sure the rest of the guys will be invited to but their special blend of contributions in soon .
