Just for future notice, this is Richard's new name and it IS him, not a fake... But he won't be checking his messages on here, so don't flood the guy and scare him off he only has so many minutes out of the day to do this stuff, so yeah i'm just tryin to watch out for the guy in response to the question, i think that some music styles are dead, and many others should be dead. Has anyone heard the new Glassjaw cd? Wow those guys are fucking amazing, definetly worth checking out if you like bands like the deftones... The new Pearl Jam CD is surprisingly good too, i've been a huge fan of their shit for awhile, was dissapointed in their recent efforts but their newest cd is their best since vitalogy On a side note, i just heard Rich sing "One" over the phone, he soudned so great, he just had coffee and he was going crazy!! i he's been so energetic lately in general, cool shit.. fuckin quality

Well, if you listen to the RADIO--you'd think so.

You're ruining all the fun, Hubka!! You mean we can't send him cute messages?? I'm gonna cry.
Nah. Don't go pestering him.
As for your post, Rich, hmm, depends. There are days when I'm subjected to the Top 40's pop stuff and I swear the fact that J. Lo. can top the charts is a sign that it is dead, but then again, there is real music out there. It's only a matter of finding it, if you will.
BTW, my kitty Little Bit doesn't think music is dead either. Likes to dance what I listen to. And sometimes, sing.

Finding it...yeah, that's the thing...I find my music at live shows...I used to hate those festival-type concerts (back-in-the-day when I went for the headliner band)...now I luv 'em--get there early--stay all day--get introduced to some great new music.
Edited to say--that's actually how I "found" Filter...

I was only teasing you, Hubka. Spoiling the fun of us who want to IM him and all. Nah. I'm kidding. Yeah I figured he'd respond to a public thread.

Thats actually and interesting question.. I think it depends on who you talk to.. You look at lets use MTV as an example.. Right now, they and the "bands" they support would say that its in its prime.. We all know that these Media Made performers are what is killing music over all.. Rock is struggling, more less, its kinda going to the below mainstream.. Its sad that i got to be up at 2am or 3am just to see a decent video.. Yeah, MTV runs the HOB of live performances.. You got to look who they run that is actually worth listening to.. All i'v seen, and i'v only seen a few performers where, Saliva, Linkin Park, Disturbed (tonight) and Staind.. But me been a fan of the non-Media Made stuff, its getting harder for me to find cds locally.. As Rock gets smaller, "Hip-Hop" gets bigger.. I'm like wtf, why ain't y'all supporting the bands that put these stores in business in the first place.. I remember Albums stores not been to big of a thing, now look at them.. And i remember it was Rock that did that, with Country.. With the change of people, i see that people get really lousy on the music they listen to.. Very degradeing music.. I hope Rock comes back and just bitch smacks this Media Made bullshit.. Rocks not going down, thats for sure.. I think in the long run, Rock will be on top.. But thats to much from me..

I saw Disturbed with Korn and Trust Company a couple of months ago. They were SO GOOD in concert--Draiman has one hell of a voice! But I'm disappointed in BELIEVE--I think a lot of the songs sound alike (just mho). Saliva--ok...Linkin' Park--I'm sorry, they strike me as just as much of a "boy band" as N'Sync. I've been listening to Kidney Thieves lately--not usually into angry-white-gurl rock....but I'm diggin' Zerospace. I highly recommend that album...

Is music dead?? Hardly. It just takes a LOT more work on the part of the listener to find something that they like. And with today's technology listeners have access to all kinds of bands and music they otherwise wouldn't. True, you have to go through a lot of terrible stuff when you're looking for new bands/artists this way but it's surprising the number of awesome artists you can and will find.
The record companies are lucky that this is the age of the 9 second attention span and that the majority of people buy what's on mtv and on the end of the isle at wal-mart. We should all be praying for major change at RIAA.. And not because they so vigorously enforce copywrite infringement. But because as long as royalties are tied to unit sales (or whatever archaic sytem they use) record companies/RIAA will continue their downward spiral as technology goes on without them.
With the mergers of many of the record labels over the last few years is there even such a thing as artist development anymore?
Anyway.. music isn't dead to me. I just have to spend more time finding what I like.

Emagic...you said something that made me think...
Yeah, music is NOT dead...GOD...music will NEVER BE dead...it's too essential!
I can't imagine life without music...
but the mainstream stuff...bleh...most of it...and DAMN the hot bands that used to be so cool underground and are drifting into mainstream...and changing...
but sometimes I wonder--are the bands changing to fit mainstream, or is mainstream changing...

I don't think music is dead. But finding GOOD music is getting harder to do. (Let's not forget finding a decent radio station.)

Music isnt dead it just sucks now. Just kidding. I stopped listening to mainstream radio. See I remember when Q101 played some really good music, but now it's the same crap that everyone plays. I mean the only time I hear a Filter song is when they play "Hey Man Nice Shot" for the millionth time or during Local 101, which is the only time they play anything decent. Now for the MTV rant, same thing. I see the same video 10 times in one day! They are trying to be more diverse in their video choices like I seen the Taproot video but they play those to death too! I usually just listen to my cds and hear about new music from friends or the internet but never from radio or television. I know there are tons of really good bands out there, just dont try finding them on MTV.

ok, in my opinion, music is not dead but the quality and individualism in music is dying. suddenly everyone for the most part wants the sound that is hot at the moment. listen carefully to the radio once and you'll realize that most of the music sounds the same in one way or another....maybe that's because the radio station here in minneapolis plays the same 10 songs over and over and over. i request FILTER and SEVENDUST on a daily basis but have yet to hear them lately. but on the bright side, check out the local scenes for some kick ass music, individualism is the key in that there.
