I don't understand the difference between a digital mixer and a professional sound card like the Midiman soundcards! I mean for example is a Delta 1010 similar to a digital mixer in this sense that you can play and record simultaneously? if they are similar ,so I better buy a Delta 1010 instead of a Korg D1200 CD digital mixer.but if the abilities are different from those of a digital mixer then I should buy them both I saw one Dleta 1010 on ebay for about 590 $,I wish I could buy it because in Iran they are almost 900 $.

mmmmm......Delta 1010 **MEGA DROOL** (damn, i need a drooling smiley) honestly bro, it all comes down to what software you run, like for example, a 1010 would be BEST run with eMagic's Logic........and it's also gonna come down to what kind of a computer you run. I'm a HUGE fan of Logic which is made by eMagic, but eMagic sold out to Apple last july, so any version past 5.x will only be avaible on Mac, which i AM buying one, because Logic 6 just looks too sweeeeet to pass up. but a Delta 1010 and Logic together are a lethal combination, in my opnion....but here's the problem: Delta 1010 =$1,000 (US sugguested retail price) Logic Platinum 5 = $950 (us suggested retail price) but keep in mind that you can usually buy both from places like www.samash.com together for a little more than the sugguested cost of just one. but one site i would really recommend you check out is: www.sound-on-sound.comit's a magazine that has EVERY question you would ever have about recording in the digital/computer based world. my current software set up is Logic Platinum 5.3, but my bro from Hyrlvl Records kicked down a copy of Platinum 5.5, and the newest versions of SoundFordge, and ProTools also...only problem is i run a low end soundcard...but i've totally lucked out too...they're about to get rid of one of their 1010's from the studio (they have 3, but only use 2)...and they'll sell it to me for $300, wich is way sweet. i hope this has answered some of your questions. later, -wark-

DOH!!, oh yeah...almost forgot...Midiman also makes a Delta 1010LT, wich costs about half the price of the regular 1010, if price is something that is worrying you, i'd check those out.

thEnk Yo I'l check the sites out . so you say it depends on the software I'm using.......hm.......,I'll try to find this Logic software here,we have a huge computer trade center in Iran which is the biggest computer market in the mid-east. you can find CD's for about 2$......full of zipped softwares..... they are not master CD's though;) this Creative soundcard which I'm using has got so much noise, and it doesn't have any Midi input, that's why I was thinking about a new soundcard........there was a new soundcard by Creative which I saw in here and it's called Creative Audigy 2: www.elara.ie/aud2.aspit's about 200$ in Iran and it's almost the same as Delta 1010 I think . there is another version called Platinum EX which has got a black and grey control panel.

oho see this: Long-time-fans and users of Logic, Rammstein guitarist Paul Landers and drummer Christoph Schneider raved about Logic 6 in their studio. From the outset, their enthusiasm was undeniable, with the Freeze function leaving a huge impression on them: "Look at the performance scale: "Without Freeze, I was at about 80 percent capacity usage, with Freeze it is only 5 percent - unbelievable." The band from Berlin are working on their 4th album at the moment. At the spontaneous session with Logic Platinum 6, the Group function and the new Project Manager also made an impact - "because we can bring our songs from home much more easily to our studio with it." Rammstein is Germany‘s most successful band internationally. Their new album will be released in the autumn of 2004

crow,
there are alot of soundcards out there that offer the exact functions that the Midiman Delta's do, for a fraction of the cost...so definatly shop around...but if you do decide to go logic (which i would highly recommend, nothing even comes close to it), be prepared to devote every waking second you have for like the next 2 months trying to figure it out.......it's the most complexed recording program ever, but at the same time it's the most powerful, and you can do anything with it.....except for make coffee...

and here's a bit of info on that Rammstein picture, logic has the ability to run upto 3 seprate monitors off your computer (granted you have a video card that can support 3 seperate monitors), which is nice, because on one monitor you can have your mixer, next monitor your arrangement, and whatever elese you want in the next....so you see 2 monitors in that picture, but they're run off 1 computer, and they're both running the same program, but displaying differnt stuff...pretty sweet, huh?

Also, have a think about a "cut-down" version of Pro Tools... (OK.. I'm biased!!!) An MBox will set you back about £350 and you can run it on either Mac or PC (depending on operating system - OSX or XP). The next step up is: Digi 001's... these are about £600 but if you want a control surface to go with that (i.e. a little mixer) go for the Digi002... Check out www.digidesign.com for their full product range! (And I'm trying not to drool about the thought of the top-of-the-range HD systems... I think I'd have to be hosed down and put in a cool, dark place to recover! ;D Wark, if you find a "drool smiley", I'm gonna have to nick it!!!) How much do you wanna spend? And what's the exchange rate between your currency and £ or $?

If you're running OSX or XP and have a decent quality sound card, DigiDesign have a free version of Pro Tools (downloadeable from the website) which is pretty damn good for doing all the basic (but important) stuff when it comes to recording and editing... ;D And yeah, this kinda hobby/job can get EXPENSIVE!!!! ARGH!!!!
